Back at it.

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Now that we are pretty much settled into the new house I have decided to get myself back on track to live a healthier life. One thing I am doing is taking fat burners to give me a bit of jump start. I am one of those people who needs to see the scale move in order to feel motivated to continue. Even if it takes a little supplement to get things off to a good start it is important for me to successfully stick to a diet and exercise plan. You can disagree with my methods if you want to and that is fine. I fully admit to needing a little crutch to be a good dieter. It is what it is and that is how I need things to work.

You just never know.

This week has been one of those weeks where life has reminded me to be thankful for what I have. Two young mothers in our area are fighting for their lives after giving birth to healthy babies. It is so heart wrenching to know that families are enduring this type of pain at what should be one of the most joyful experiences in life. If you read this and haven’t felt thankful to be able to hold your children in a while please do take a minute and hold them. I know two young women who may never feel that joy. Say a prayer that they might get that opportunity.

Toe Woes

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

If there is one thing I am familiar with it is sore toes. For some reason I seem to be constantly stubbing my second and third toes on something all the time. I think it is because of the freakish fact that these toes on both my feet are partially grown together. It just seems like every time I bump them into something I feel double the pain. Recently I think I may have broken one of them because I can barely touch it. I really need to find some comfy shoes like those Asgi shoes you hear about. Right now I am sporting slippers because all of my other shoes just are too stiff and hurt my poor little toes too much to wear. If you see me out and about on the town in slippers you will know why okay?

Flying Ghost Pictures, Images and Photos
Just this week I was having a conversation with a friend about the state of the world around us. It just feels like everyone is caught up in a negative state of emotion. Daily we are inundated with news of rising prices, economic downturn, and countless global crisis issues. This seems to have created a general state of anxiety in so many people and a desperate need for more joy. I believe that the greatest joys in life are simple and unexpected. I further believe that joy is contagious. Why not bring a little more joy into the world around you starting today with a simple act of kindness to those around you?

“Ghosting” is a fun Halloween tradition of doing something nice for your neighbors and friends. In the spirit of “paying it forward”, everyone needs more positive touches in their life. In our current world filled with constant negative news, Ghosting It Forward is an effort to spread some positive touches to neighbors locally or friends virtually. Whether it is an anonymous note of thanks to your neighbor, a bunch of flowers, a bar of chocolate, an inspirational book or movie, or just a smiley face, Ghosting It Forward will energize people who send and receive the positive touches.

This is the life.

Life is so good I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am! Living in a nice neighborhood has changed my entire perspective on life. It is so nice to not have to worry when the next drunken party is going to occur next door or when the cops are going to make a drug bust of your neighbors. I love looking out my kitchen window and having the only thought be how beautiful the view is. I love worrying about where my Nikon binoculars are instead or where I left the number for animal control, CPS, or the drug task force. Life is a blessing it really is and I am just as thankful as I can be for all I have been given.

Reading over my shoulder.

Part of my daily tasks is to sift through my spam mail folder looking for important emails that somehow are filtered inappropriately. I REALLY wish there some way to filter spam mail better than my settings allow. My older son is constantly home now and there is no way to block him from reading the computer screen if he walks into the room. It is one thing if he reads an email heading about diet pill reviews. I about died today when I was trying to delete a email about male “anatomy” enlargement products and he read the title before I could get rid of it. I sat there praying he would ask why someone would want that type of product. Thankfully, he didn’t!

Not a minute in the day.

I knew when I decided to home school our son that it was a huge decision. I did not realize how much time it would take every day to get all of our lessons finished and complete everything else I need to do in the course of the day. There are so many things I am letting slide it isn’t funny. I really need to clean the bathroom and get some painting done but just can’t seem to find a hour in the day. I barely have time to open the mail and sift through all the auto insurance quotes, pizza coupons, and circulars we get each day to find the bills so I can pay them. Anyone who thinks that home schooling parents are slackers has no idea the work and dedication it takes to really do the job right!

Welcoming a puppy.

Monday, October 6th, 2008

In about 3 weeks we will have a new addition to our family. Our older son has desperately wanted a puppy. We told him we would get him one when he was ten years old. This December he will turn 9 and we have decided to ignore our rule and go ahead and get him a puppy now. We will be getting a miniature Schnauzer puppy. A friend of ours knows someone in Nebraska who has a little of puppies in need of homes. So now not only will I have to buy cat supplies but also puppy supplies. I am hoping to be able to paper train the little guy and am looking into various housebreaking products. Do you have any good suggestions?
