Hopefully only a phase.

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I sleep very lightly. So lightly in fact that I hear noises in and out of my home likeChicago personal injury lawyers hear an ambulance 20 blocks away. So when my son started sleep walking he didn’t get two steps before I heard him and steered him back to his room. I asked him in the morning if he remembered anything but he just shook his head No. He has done it several times in the past but has recently started to do it more frequently causing me fear that he will fall down our stairs. My husband says we should put a baby gate up but then I would be afraid of him falling over top of the baby gate. Hopefully he will grow out of it.

Dreaming of the farm.

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Today is one of those days when I want to be anywhere but where I am. My toddler is experiencing one of those phases where he can’t ask for anything without screaming. It doesn’t matter if he wants more milk or to watch a video, it all comes out in a screaming demand for attention. Where I would really like to be is at parents house. My parents live on a farm. If you have ever been to a farm or grown up on one you can appreciate what farm life is like. If we could I would return to country living in a heart beat but we simply can’t. As often as possible I try to take my children to visit my parents so they can experience a taste of farm life. My older son can’t get enough of my parents barn and outbuildings. He spends every minute possible outside exploring. Our younger son has just one thing on his mind when he gets there and that is my father’s truck. My father has a Ford F150 and couldn’t live without. A truck is an indispensable piece of equipment on the farm. It get used for everything from hauling wood, animals, and feed to plowing the drive. When the rest of us are stuck in our city driveways my Dad and Mom are out cruising the streets. You just can’t beat F150 wheels for getting you where you need to go in rain, snow, or other inclement weather. We have been really thankful for my Dad’s truck now that we are in the process of moving. It is simply so much easier and cheaper to load up the truck and take a bunch of stuff whenever we want to the new house. Renting a moving truck is both expensive and inconvenient. On particularly cranky days with my two year old I would really, really love to have one of these trucks. He loves nothing more than to sit behind the wheel and pretend to drive the F150 just like Grandpa! He doesn’t every have to leave the driveway and his world is a happy place. That sort of describes how most men feel behind the wheel of an F150 doesn’t it?

Put your feet down!

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Have you had one of those days where if you said something once you have said it a thousand times? That is how my day has been. Our older son must have been told a dozen times today to get his feet down off the television stand. For some reason he like to lay on the floor with his feet up in the air and watch television. Granted, we don’t have home theater seating in our house and comfy chairs are at a premium but this isn’t an excuse to put foot prints all over the furniture and walls. I am about ready to put a piece of tape on the floor and institute times outs for any feet that go past the line of tape. The thing is that is more work than I want and will just leave a sticky mess. I guess the point is that after the first 6 times it should sink in that he needs to keep his feet on the floor.

Cyber school.

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

This year our son will be going to a cyber school instead of a traditional brick and motor school. So far the support from this school has been exceptional. There is just one thing that is driving me crazy and that is the fact that we haven’t yet received our text books and supplies. School starts in two weeks and I really want to start organizing and preparing. I am not worried about the computer, hard drive, printer, or accessories that the school supplies because we have more than enough computers. What I am worried about is starting the first day of school and having to scramble to get ourselves together to accomplish something.

Details and more details.

We have moved so many times over the years that I pretty much have it down to a science. It isn’t the actual packing and moving that wears me out but rather the little details. Things like having phone service turned on or getting a new auto insurance comparison just test my limits. For one thing I despise talking on the phone. I am just one of those people who would rather deal with you face to face or handle things online. The last time I had to have phone service connected I ended up in tears and hung up on the person because they kept talking in circles and were not answering my questions. It was very clear they were trying to sell me more service than I wanted or needed. Hopefully this experience won’t be a repeat performance.

Boyle’s Furniture $10,000 Dream Room Giveaway!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

We are in the process of looking for a new house which is always a great deal of fun. The only thing that is driving me crazy right now is that we are looking at much larger houses than we currently have. I am having a really hard time envisioning what our new house will look like with our furniture in it since we really don’t have very much. I think I am going to seriously have to look into getting some discount furniture.

What I really, really, REALLY need to do is win the $10,000 Dream Room Giveaway at Boyle’s Furniture. Boyle’s is a North Carolina’s furniture retailer that sells both online in and in their 3 brick and motor stores. With pricing at as much 50% lower than what other stores sell similar furniture for shopping at Boyle’s is a great way to stretch your buying dollar.

Now through August 31st Boyle’s is having a contest in which a lucky winner be given $10,000 to create an incredible dream room. You can enter this contest by clicking the above image. Entries are allowed daily until the contest deadline so don’t delay! As much as I would love to win the $10,000 myself it would be fun if one of you did as well!

Please be real…

I tend to be a bit of a pessimist. As hard as I try this just isn’t something I can get over. The truth is I come from a long line of pessimists. As a child I remember my Grandmother being famous for saying “Maybe so”. It didn’t matter if you handed her the tickets and said “we are sending you on a one of those Vegas vacations or stated a known truth like the “sky is blue” is was a given that my grandmother would respond “Maybe so…”. Right now my mind is whirling with all the things that could happen to prevent the sale of our home going through. Even if we need to live with my mother-in-law for the next year I just want so badly to be able to move. My prayer is that this will become a reality and not just be a “Maybe so…” in my life.

Little ears.

Having children around the home is an amazing adventure. What never ceases to intrigue me is how when it come to some things children have minds that emulate the capabilities of the best computer memory available. For example if you casually mention that you might be going to Walmart this week they will ask every hour when this trip is going to take place. This is not just every hour but every hour of every day for as many as it takes to get them to the toy department of Walmart. Ask this same child to take a shower and brush his teeth (something he does every day) and somehow only half of these things will get done.
