Keep Cool

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

We all have those days when try as we might we have reached our last nerve. Anything and everything seems to throw us into a mood. What is a Mommy to do? Here are some ideas to help you keep your cool when everything in you wants to scream:

  • Phone a friend or family member
  • Get some fresh air for a moment
  • Count to ten then ask yourself: “Do I feel calm?” If the answer is no, carry on counting until you can say yes
  • Laugh out loud
  • Put on your favourite music
  • Throw your energy into a big cleaning session
  • Have a drink of water or make yourself a cup of tea
  • Think about a loving moment with your child
  • Give your child a hug
  • Remind yourself of that surge of emotion when your child was born.
  • Say to yourself: “Keep calm, think positive”

Tough things they don’t tell you~

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

No one can appreciate being a parent until they are in the thick of it and there is no instruction manual.

You have to learn it each time with each child from the ground up yourself. I was amazed to find each age has its own unique challenges. You blindly think it gets simpler as they age but it doesn’t. When you have more than one you really begin to appreciate the very unique things about each child. Even from birth they have different personalities and needs.

I never thought I would need to “know” other parents but there is a wealth of knowledge that’s out there just waiting to be tapped. When you haven’t a clue turn to another Mommy you trust and ask them WWYD?

Being a parent will test everything about you. It is a daily challenge that makes us strive to be better than we ever thought possible because liitle eyes are taking in everything we do. Nothing brings this home quicker than the first time your preschooler says a curse word… and when asked says they learned it from you..

Baby: Must Have

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

I thought periodically I would share some of the must have products in my life. These are items that I have discovered that I TRULY find useful in getting my Mommy business done. These are be unbiased items I use every day!

My number one MUST HAVE as a nursing Mommy is :

The AVENT Isis Manual Breast Pump!

I am not a Mommy who likes to nurse in public. More power to those who do but it is not my thing. I love this pump because I can literally “create” a bottle of milk on our way to our destination LOL. In fact I actually have two of these pumps so one is always ready “to go”. I think this pump is actually superior to even the hospital grade pump I used while the littlest man was still sick in the hospital. I have an electric pump that I have never even gotten back out for this baby because these pumps are so even and convenient to use.

If you need one check out Ebay first! Mine was at least 50% cheaper than my local store.

I am not average….

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Just so you know none of us are average. Being a Mommy is the farthest thing from average I have ever done. We have been married 16 years and children have only been a part of that equation for 7 of them. I had a great deal of time before I was blessed with children to be “average”. The process to bring each of my two wonderful boys into this world was anything but “average” and taught me that Motherhood is quite simply a miracle. There are no “average” miracles. Miracles made me a Mommy and therefore I am not average.

This blog is for all the Mommies who are “No Average Mom”!
